WESTERN KINGS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL
The First Sixty Years
1922-1982

Forward

This history of Western Kings Memorial Hospital is a special project of the hospital auxiliaries of Berwick in celebration of the sixtieth anniversary of the opening of the first hospital. Every effort has been made to insure an accurate summary of events in order to give an over-all picture of developments; but of necessity much has been omitted. Some persons or groups who have given devoted service to the cause have not even been mentioned. This we regret; but space is limited.

The information presented here has been gleaned chiefly from accounts appearing throughout the years in the Berwick Register and other publications, as well as from hospital records. We wish to thank all those who have loaned us pictures and clippings, whether or not they were used.

Most sincere thanks are due to one man in particular, Mr. John R. Dow, Day Supervisor of Nurses at W.K.M.H., who has not only loaned us three large volumes of clippings and pictures which he has collected about the hospital, but has also done all the photography for the book. His help has been invaluable.
